-Attack to creat a diversion from the major Somme offensive.
-Australian 5th Division Attacked.
-7hr Artillery bombardment. 11pm, 19th July.
-Captured 1000 yards (915m) of Enemy Trenches.

Enemy counterattacked.
-Forced Aussies back into own Trenches.
-Australian trenches packed with dead or dying.
-Casualties, 5,533. 400 prisoners. Wounded in no mans land.
-5th Divison out of action for months.

The attack was described as 'important raids' during which 'about 140 German prisoners were captured.'
